my 8 year old nephew mikey joined the cub scouts just recently.  his first "project" was to make a cake for a cake auction.  but not just aaaany cake.  it's a cake designed to look like something else. it's also a contest.  the only requirement is that it be edible.

so last night he and his dad got to work to make a "pizza cake".

the ingredients:


a yummy cake large round cake with the center scooped out to form the pie and crust




strawberry jam for the pizza sauce




grated white chocolate becomes mozzarella cheese




and red fruit roll-ups cut into "pepperoni rounds"



making the pizza:


spreading a light layer of cream cheese frosting so the jam won't get absorbed into the cake



adding the "pizza sauce"



sprinkling (or in mikey's case squishing) the "mozzarella cheese" on



adding the "pepperoni slices"



voila! pizza cake.



the proud scout and his creation.  the auction is tonight, so i'll be sure to let you know if he won!  i think he should.  it was fun seeing the process go from an idea to this finished product.


edit: i forgot to add that i suggested they present it in a domino's pizza box tonight at the auction!
