almost a month ago, my friend debbie got some bad news.  there were rumors that her nephew joe had been killed while on duty in iraq.  maybe you saw or heard it on the news (it might have been a local story).   it all turned out well when the rumors were put to rest and joe called his dad and said he was alive and well.  i felt a kind of connection to the story having known debbie for over 25 years plus joe's mom and dad babysat allie when she was a toddler.

anyway, we all breathed a huge sigh of relief and went back to living our lives.


yesterday, my sister called debbie to see if she was coming to tracey's shower this weekend.  debbie told her she didn't think so because the army had offcially notified them that joe was one of the three soldiers being held captive by the insurgents. WHAT? NO WAY. 

so we knew about this yesterday, but they are just releasing the names to the news today.  can you believe that? what are the chances this same guy who was THOUGHT dead a month ago, and turned up just fine would be one of these three?   it's staggering and i'm just sick about it.  he's allie's age.  poor debbie.  god, his poor family.  it doesn't look good.
